Using InfraNodus, you can develop ideas using a combination of GPT-3 AI and text network visualization.
The advantage of using InfraNodus is that you don't have the AI writing for you, but, instead, with you.
It also visualizes your ideas, as you write, so you can see how your discourse builds up, what are the main topics, relations, and — most importantly — structural gaps that emerge within.
InfraNodus will then take the structure and the main elements of your discourse into account to help you generate new ideas and connections between them — either by yourself or using the built-in GPT-3 module.
Below is a step-by-step tutorial or you can also watch this video to learn how it works.
1. Open the Live AI Ideation App
Go to https://infranodus.com/apps then click on AI Ideation > Live AI Ideation App.
You can also access this module from the Create a New Graph template > Develop an Idea:
2. Enter Your Idea or a Few Keywords
Start with an idea, question, or keyword that you want to develop further and build upon. For instance, "What is vipassana meditation?"
Then click "Save & Develop"
3. Use the Graph and AI Insight Dialogue to Build Your Discourse
After you save your first statement, it will be visualized as a graph. The words (e.g. "vipassana" and "meditation") are the nodes and their co-occurrences are the connections between them.
InfraNodus will also show you the topic category identified for your item.
It will also use GPT-3 AI to generate some relevant content in relation to your first phrase to help you develop it further:
4. Add an AI-generated idea into the graph or regenerate
If you like what the AI insight module generated for you, you can click +Save to Graph to add it into your mental field of ideas and continue building this discourse. You can also regenerate this fact if you click "More Facts"
As you can see, after adding this statement to the graph, it appears on the left, and InfraNodus automatically calculates the topical categories that you just added: in our case, it's "Stress-relief", "Mindfulness" and "Meditation". So we know which direction the discourse can go in.
InfraNodus will then automatically identify the less represented ideas ("Mindfulness" and "Meditation" in this case), identified each with a specific color, and suggest to think of a relation between them.
This approach is based on detecting the structural gaps in your discourse and suggesting content that can help you bridge those gaps.
5. Add more AI-generated facts
After we click the "Facts" AI module, another fact is generated that links these two topical groups ("popularity" and "meditation"). We can add this to the graph, and now we have more topics emerging in our discourse:
We can see that it's evolving towards the topic of stress, meditation, and concentration.
6. Add your own ideas using the AI Research Questions module
You don't have to only add AI-generated content. If you click on Questions instead of Facts, InfraNodus will generate a research question that will attempt to link two topics that are not linked together.
For instance, in this case, it's linking the topic of meditation to the topics of concentration and stress and meditation:
Instead of adding this question, we can provide an answer, and add this answer that we ourselves wrote into the graph using the live text editor. This will help us develop the discourse using our own ideas. AI here is utilized as a conversational partner who helps us bridge the gaps in existing ideas.
Our own content is tagged with "Ideas" (vs. "AI facts" tag), so we can always see which ideas we added were ours and which came from the AI.
7. Bridge the structural gaps in your discourse
The AI Insight module of InfraNodus will automatically detect the structural gaps in your discourse and attempt to generate content (questions, facts, ideas) that bridges those gaps.
Think of them as blind spots in your ideas. The more of those blind spots you can cover, the more coherent your discourse will be.
For instance, as the next step, InfraNodus generates an interesting connection between the topic of Produtivity and Stress-relief, exploring a less present tangent in our discourse:
This is happening because InfraNodus is programmed according to Ecological Cognitive Variability framework. If there are less represented topics in your discourse, it will occasionally propose you develop them further by bridging connections between them. If your discourse is too dispersed, it will focus on the main ideas again.
If we add this to the graph, InfraNodus will integrate this statement into subsequent analysis, so further requests to the AI will be made based on the structure of your discourse.
8. Select specific concepts on the graph to develop them further
You can also select specific concepts on the graph to use the AI module to develop them further.
For example, suppose you're interested to develop ideas in relation to the concept of "meditation practice". Click on those nodes and let the AI module generate ideas in relation to them:
As you can see, we just got a new idea that talks about the effects of meditation practice on the growth of new brain cells. Let's add this to the graph.
9. Link ideas that are not linked yet
We encourage you to link the ideas that are not linked yet. When you click on the concepts, you'll see what other concepts they are connected to in your text. Try to click more nodes that those concepts are not yet connected to, but could possibly be, in your opinion. Follow your hunch and intuition and make new connections this way. For instance:
Here we connect the ideas of meditation practice and mental concentration. The Analytics > Relation tab on the right shows that those concepts are not yet connected. Yet, the AI Insight module produced an interesting fact that shows how meditation can help slow down cognitive decline in adults.
10. Generate a new text from your existing one
Once you're done ideating, you can save some of the most important ideas into your Project Notes or even write a new text based on the original graph.
Note, you can click "Add Analytics" to add all the insights from the analytics panel to your Project Notes.
Then add some of your own notes and click AI Generate Outline to generate an outline of a future article on the topic:
Now you have the titles and the outline of the sections of your article, you can easily write an essay about it, integrate it into your research, or simply use it to remember the main points of the ideas you were exploring.
